Profile of Derby

Here's the quick summary - most relevant to my work at Ashwhin:-

I began learning massage at the tender age of 10, and I have ever since then been interested and active in learning about healing on all levels. Early on I recognised the connection of physicality and creative intuition or spirit.

I explored a wide range of practices from meditation to reflexology, and gaining my reiki mastery in 1999.

I have always been fascinated by people, and especially in helping them attain their potential. My experience of training and of counselling has enabled me to gain many skills.

Most recently I have gained Munay-ki, begun working with sound, movement and art as a means to personal growth and transformation

Longer version:-

There are several constants in my life. I love people, my close friends are my true family - though some of my relations are friends too. I deeply care about humanity, about individuals, and this no doubt is the force behind my drive to heal and nurture, to engage and support. Natural beauty is a necessity for me, and my furry companions the children of my heart. To create is like breathing, to learn is essential and to share is just what I do. I still hate hypocrisy, but I fight it more gently.

My work life has been varied, including many teaching and lecturing roles, work in the media, and several roles in voluntary organisations. To fill in the gaps, I had a few really odd jobs like rushing & caning chairs, and creating unique designer knitted garments. I also was involved in voluntary groups for animals (RSPCA) and art (Mill Art Gallery, Carlisle). Each job was immensely useful when it came to setting up my business.

In the early 90s I discovered reiki and then psychosynthesis. Reiki was an essential catalyst for me. It helped me to see my life from different perspective and to take responsibility for my own healing.

Probably the most important job I had in terms of personal growth and learning was my seven years volunteering with the Samaritans. I was active in the Samaritan movement as a local volunteer, and held several roles at the Carlisle Branch beyond my normal duties: - Publicity Officer, Ongoing Training Co-ordinator and Leader. I gained the most on every score from my involvement with regional and national training - meeting some of the most wonderful folk in the world!

In 1998, a totally new chapter in my life began. When I lost my nice safe job at Border Television, the shock was soon replaced with delight that I would be able to move to Scotland and the certainty that I needed to start my own business and live life my way.
