Routines, tips and great little ideas to keep tension out of your shoulders, to keep mentally sharp and to find and maintain your Zone of sublime Activity Bringing Balance into your work - whether you work for someone else or run your own business
Many things can lead to stress in the work place - changes in work patterns, self regulation, lack of teamwork, poor communication, interpersonal conflict, and lack of pacing - overload and underload. Much of my training is targeted at these specific issues.
Here is a list of ideas to help make your days easier and your body less tense:-
-
If you arrive early - do not work late
-
Take at least one break a day outside - even 10 minutes can renew you
-
Make sure that the chairs that you use regularly support you properly, and that your head is at a comfortable angle when working in front of a computer.
-
Feeling tired? Rub your ears - yes, rub your ears from the lobe all the way around the outer edges. You can do this really vigorously, because what you are doing is stimulating a whole load of pressure points that will release your energy flow and wake you up, and focus your mind.
-
Along this same line, you can help yourself feel much more relaxed and generally in better balance if you take a few MINUTES to gently and thoroughly rub your hands. This is a cut down version of hand reflexology, so you want to try to rub every part of both hands to stimulate all the reflex points.
-
Drink water - filtered tap water is best. Water helps keep your system clean and clear, unlike gallons of tea or coffee that just clag up your system and force your metabolism to work overtime to clean and clear out.
At your desk:-
-
Take off your shoes and wiggle and stretch your feet and toes
-
Roll you neck gently - regularly
-
Also, tense and relax your shoulders
-
If you are worried, keep a song going around in your head
-
Rest your eyes!!! - focus on distant objects, if you are lucky enough to be near a window, then focus back and forth from the furthest point away that you can see to a few inches from your nose, back and forth. this exercises you eye muscles and relaxes your eyes.
-
close your eyes for a few moments whenever you think of it, we tend to blink less often that we should when we are working on a computer
-
try to break up your work so that you are not doing the same thing in the same position hour after hour
Remember we work to live - not live to work
